Servant’s Heart Award is created to financially support high school and college students of faith in Christ who demonstrate love for God with a commitment to serve, lead, and grow spiritually. This eight-month program aims to train and develop servants for Christ in the local church (Mark 10:45).
to establish this scholarship fund for high school and full-time college students each year. The amount of each scholarship will vary depending on the number of qualified applicants as well as funds available each year.
Awards can be up to $1500 per program
Eligibility and Criteria
Be a faithful member of the Vietnamese Baptist Church (VBC) for at least one year
Demonstrate a real commitment to Christ and to the church
High school student (10-12 grade) or college student who currently enrolls in an accredited institution of higher education
Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
Recipients of the Servant’s Heart Award are expected:
To commit to the entire eight-month of the program
To participate in Thanh Nien’s weekly Bible study and other regular services for the church.
To serve 20 sessions of individual service during the eight-month program. The type of service will be determined by the Selection Committee.
To participate in bi-weekly Servant’s Heart training lessons (~16 lessons)
Participants who miss three (3) lessons are disqualified from the program till next term and won’t receive second disbursement.
Any lessons missed requires one (1) page write up on the lesson sent to the participant’s mentor.
Renewal of the award is not guaranteed. Eligibility will be based on program participation, full-time enrollment status (unless exceptions are granted by the scholarship committee), and a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Amounts awarded may vary each year, based on the number of the applicants and the amount of funding available.

Applicant Records Security and Retention
All confidential information besides the full name or photographs provided under consent collected during the application process is managed safely and not shared with anyone outside of the selection committee for application review and awarding purposes.
In order to maintain records of scholarship disbursements and to ensure that each awardee only receives a total of 4 scholarships, we will retain the names and information of each scholarship winner for 4 years after applicants received their first award. All electronic records will be securely saved on a local drive for the duration of record maintenance.
If an applicant filled out a background check form as part of the onboarding process, the information will be kept safely by the administrators or committee for the awarded year.
IRS Reporting
Federal tax laws consider it the student’s sole responsibility to know when income is taxable or not and to report income accordingly on his or her personal tax returns.
Scholarship awards are tax-free for the recipient when:
The scholarship award is used to pay for tuition and fees, or books, supplies, and equipment required for courses at the institution.
The recipient is a candidate for a degree at an educational institution and maintains full-time enrollment at an accredited college, university or highschool.
