The Message of the Cross: From Tears to Smiles

The sermon then explores the value of suffering in the life of faith. The pastor argues that hardship is a harsh but effective teacher, helping believers mature, recognize their own limitations, and develop inner strength. The sermon concludes with the theme of joy in the hope of resurrection. The pastor cites 1 Corinthians 15:17-19 to affirm that if Christ did not rise, faith is utterly worthless. The moving story of Philip, a boy with Down syndrome who brought an empty plastic egg to Sunday school as a symbol of the empty tomb, becomes the most vivid illustration of the sermon's message: the cross and the resurrection are the foundation of Christian hope that transforms tears into smiles.
