Receiving the Word That Saves the Soul

The sermon begins with James 1:17-21 to emphasize that every good and perfect gift comes from God. Believers live between two worlds: material and spiritual. The physical eye can only see the tangible material world, but only through spiritual eyes can people perceive the invisible yet real spiritual world. Although believers know about spiritual life, temptations and forces of the material world are powerful, leading many down the wide road to destruction. The material world's desires for four T's (affection, wealth, money, and prestige) will end with another T - death. No one can take material possessions when dying. However, among all God's gifts, there is one more precious than all others: the word of truth that redeems the soul. The soul is priceless and eternally existing even when the body becomes dust. To redeem the priceless soul, God paid an enormous price - the precious blood of Christ, the spotless and blameless Lamb.

The value of Scripture is proven through history: since Gutenberg invented the printing press in 1445, the Bible has consistently been the best-selling book and has been translated into 4,007 languages out of 7,396 known languages. The Bible is the essential key to knowing God, understanding human sin, and the salvation plan through Jesus Christ. Through Scripture, God reveals His nature, the origin of humanity, sin, and the grace of salvation. God's Word is more necessary than ever in today's society because of excessive false, deceptive information on social media and harmful false religions. God reveals Himself through nature, history, the words of prophets, and especially through Scripture and Jesus Christ, who is the most complete revelation. James teaches believers three attitudes when facing God's Word: first, quick to listen to God's Word through Bible reading and attending sermons, with a heart of love rather than burden; second, slow to speak, meaning not hastily sharing things not fully understood or insufficiently studied; third, slow to anger, maintaining an attitude of submission and accepting the limitations of understanding rather than criticizing or dismissing God's Word as outdated or irrelevant to modern times.

Receiving God's Word with sincere desire for spiritual renewal is not merely to gain knowledge but to be taught, reminded, disciplined, and transformed inwardly where no one can see. God's Word brings forgiveness, compassion, humility, and powerful spiritual rebirth. Believers must receive God's Word with humble, reverent hearts, with meekness, in order to be redeemed of their priceless souls.
