# Honoring Veterans

In the United States, Veterans Day is observed on November 11th. This day holds great significance, as it marks the anniversary of the armistice agreement. November 11, 1918, was the day that ended World War I. This holiday was originally called Armistice Day to commemorate the end of the war, and the armistice was signed at "the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month." By 1954, the name of this holiday was changed to Veterans Day to honor and express gratitude to all veterans who served in America's wars.

In Scripture, God's Word also teaches us to live with gratitude toward those who have worked hard to help us grow spiritually. The Apostle Paul was someone who always lived with gratitude toward his fellow workers and benefactors. In his letters, we see that the Apostle Paul often mentioned friends such as Timothy, Epaphroditus, Luke, and many others as fellow laborers, servants, and beloved brothers. He never viewed ministry as personal work; he gave thanks, often remembered them, and prayed for them. "I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now" (Philippians 1:3-5, 7).

Furthermore, the Apostle Paul also exhorts us to respect and be grateful toward spiritual leaders, those who teach God's Word and guide us spiritually. He wrote to the believers saying, "Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those whose hard work it is to lead you, who counsel you in the Lord and admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work" (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13). We must support our leaders, love them, and care for them, because they are doing important work—teaching God's Word and helping us understand and faithfully live according to His Word. To show respect and gratitude, we should imitate the good virtues of our leaders and demonstrate this through our daily Christian living, holding fast to our faith, and glorifying God's name. "Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith" (Hebrews 13:7).

Let us give thanks to God for giving us fellow believers to work alongside. God knows all that His people do and will reward those whose hearts are faithful in serving Him: "God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them" (Hebrews 6:10). May God's Word encourage us to always live with gratitude to the Lord, to exalt His name through holy living, serving Him, and helping and encouraging one another, just as our fellow workers have supported us in our growth and journey in God's way. May those around us see God's work in our lives and praise Him! "Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).
