# Central Vietnam Floods

According to news reports from Vietnam, as of October 31, 2025, the flooding in Central Vietnam from October 22 to the present has caused severe damage: At least 28 people have died, 6 are missing, and approximately 43 have been injured; 91 houses have collapsed or been swept away; 181 homes have been damaged; over 133,000 homes have been flooded, with more than 22,000 homes still deeply submerged. Regarding agriculture, nearly 5,000 hectares of rice and vegetables have been flooded; over 800 hectares of fruit trees and perennial crops have been damaged; over 22,000 livestock and poultry have died or been swept away. The cause of these floods is a combination of weather conditions including cold air, easterly wind disturbances, and the remnants of Typhoon No. 12 (Fengshen). The storm brought record-breaking rainfall—Bạch Mã Peak (Huế) recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall in the country and the second-highest in the world. The Nam Đông weather station also recorded its highest single-day rainfall of 968.1mm on October 27, breaking the record set in 2017. The total rainfall from October 25-30 at Bạch Mã Peak reached over 4 meters (4,161mm), and at Khe Tre nearly 2 meters (1,956mm). Affected areas include Quảng Trị to Quảng Ngãi, with particularly severe damage in Huế and Đà Nẵng. Road and rail transportation along the North-South corridor has been cut off in many locations. Many residents were isolated at night and had to seek help through social media. Rescue teams from Nghệ An provided emergency assistance. The United Nations in Vietnam has deployed its 2025 response plan for typhoons and floods, providing humanitarian aid and livelihood recovery support. Relief efforts include: Providing food, clean water, and medicine to isolated residents; Financial assistance to repair damaged homes, schools, and medical clinics; Mobilizing volunteers and machinery to clear mud and restore transportation routes. Additionally, religious organizations are contributing to relief efforts, including Oneway, the North American Baptist Fellowship, VMB, VBTS, and churches in North America calling for donations to help fellow citizens affected by these floods.

Floods are not only devastating homes, but they are also a test of the human heart. When someone falls, compassion is the hand that lifts them up. In times of calamity, mercy is not merely a temporary emotion, but an act of love. As God's people, we must show love to those who are suffering, experiencing floods, and losing their homes. Love is expressed through concrete actions, and it is an effective way to share the Gospel with all people, especially in times of need. Jesus said, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another" (John 13:35). It is not doctrine or ritual, but love itself that is the sign of those who belong to God. In times of calamity, that love is proven through action.

Calamity and floods are also an opportunity for us to serve others. This is a privilege God grants—not an obligation or burden, but a way of living that reflects the image of Jesus more fully, serving God. Jesus said, "Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me" (Matthew 25:34-36). When we help clean up, rebuild living environments, provide bread, listen to cries for help, pray, and offer whatever assistance we can, we are walking in the footsteps of our Savior. Let us follow the example of Jesus: "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45).

Be a light shining in the darkness for flood victims. Compassion for others is the light that guides flood-affected people out of darkness. We help them not only materially, but also spiritually—bringing comfort, interceding for them, and sharing the Gospel of salvation. "Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done" (Proverbs 19:17); "Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased" (Hebrews 13:16).

We pray that God will have mercy on the Vietnamese people in this great calamity; that He will deliver them from this great loss, especially spiritually; that the Holy Spirit will open people's hearts to awaken through this flood; that all earthly wealth and riches will pass away in an instant, but God's love and Gospel remain eternal, so that we may quickly believe and accept them. May God help us to be generous in assisting flood victims, interceding for them to soon know God and accept Jesus as their Savior; teach us to be vigilant daily, to live according to God's Word, for the day of His return is unexpected and no one knows when! Thank you, Lord! Amen!
