# The Starting Point

Dr. Neil T. Anderson was born on a farm in Minnesota to Scandinavian parents. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy and was trained as an electronics technician, while also serving as a competitive swimmer and rescue lifeguard. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended engineering school. Upon graduation, he took a position as an aerospace engineer. He encountered the Lord and accepted Him while attending the Campus Crusade for Christ missionary training institute. Two years after coming to Christ, he resigned from Honeywell and enrolled at Talbot School of Theology, a graduate school of Biola University. Dr. Anderson is an American author who writes about Christianity, including books such as Victory Over the Darkness, The Bondage Breaker, The Steps to Freedom in Christ, and Daily in Christ. He is the founder and director of the Freedom in Christ Ministry. Previously, he was the chairman of the Department of Practical Theology at Talbot School of Theology.

Dr. Anderson shared: "I read very few books until I came to Christ. Now I read many books. After accepting Christ, I wanted to serve Him full-time. I had graduated from engineering school and was prepared to do whatever God wanted—except go back to school. But within a year, I was eager to attend seminary. It was the best educational experience of my life and my favorite experience up to that point. Since then, I have earned four additional degrees. If we delight in the Lord, He will change the desires of our hearts!"

Are you truly rejoicing in the Lord, in all He provides, and in God's Word? Dr. Anderson has experienced joy in the Lord. God instilled in him a love of reading—reading God's Word, and a burning desire to be equipped with His truth. He found fulfillment in God's Word and became a devoted servant of His! If we truly love the Lord with all our hearts, we must certainly love His Word and always long to read and study the Scripture daily! When we seek the Lord with all our hearts, He will reveal His will to us. Moreover, God will transform our thinking through His perfect plan. "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act" (Psalm 37:4-5).

A heart that earnestly desires to learn God's Word always brings contentment in Him. Many believers mistakenly think that studying God's Word is to gain many blessings and material wealth, but it is not so. God's Word itself is an invaluable treasure! When we hold the Bible in our hands and meditate on it day and night, we are truly rich and blessed spiritually. We should not understand wealth here as having a big house, driving an expensive car, or having fame in society. Material prosperity in this world will suddenly fade away—that is not what we desire. Rather, the most important thing is that our souls live eternally under the care of the eternal God! Just as King David said to the Lord, "You are my Lord; I have no good apart from You" (Psalm 16:2). Thank God, His name is glorious forever and infinitely, as He declared, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away" (Mark 13:31).

Study God's Word, read the Bible every day, discover what the Lord wants to teach us, and obey His will. This is the eternal wealth that no power can take from us! Maintain discipline in meditating on God's Word. If anything in this life disappoints you, God and His Word are your absolute source of hope, because "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever" (Isaiah 40:8). No one has regretted studying God's Word, but many who did not study His Word have regretted it. Studying God's Word is not the only thing we need to do, but it is the "Starting Point" for doing everything else that needs to be done! Begin today, for we do not know if tomorrow will come. With a beginning, we take many more steps forward, and our future becomes bright, fulfilling, and fruitful for God's kingdom! May the Lord help us make good "Starting Points" before the return of Jesus Christ; help us study and follow His Word faithfully and with results for His church! Amen!

Let us begin and trust, Seeking Him with a devoted heart, Surely we will meet our Father, Reading God's Word brings true peace! The Lord provides all we need, For He watches over every way and place, Together we remember the Words Spoken by God, forever unfading! Firm faith in the Lord always, Our lives surely blessed forever long!
