# Water Filters

Drinking water is absolutely essential for sustaining human life. On average, each person needs to drink three liters of water daily to regulate body temperature, support digestion, absorb nutrients, eliminate toxins, protect organs and joints, and support brain function and boost energy. Therefore, we need to drink clean water to live strong and healthy each day and to serve the Lord with results.

Health research organizations recommend that we have a water filter at home to filter water before drinking. The reason is that no matter how clean water appears to be, there is always a risk of contamination. The water pipes in our homes may be carrying harmful chemicals, pollutants, and even microorganisms and bacteria. We truly do not know if the water pipes running through our homes are clean. How old are the water supply lines? Therefore, installing a water filter, especially for drinking water, can help us avoid any potential pollutants that may seep into our home's faucets. Some water filters can also filter out specific minerals, such as lead, nitrates, and so on.

Furthermore, water filters also help remove dissolved metals that make water hard, such as calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺) found in water. These dissolved metals make water hard, making it difficult to keep things clean, whether dishes or hands, and can cause dirty residue to accumulate in water pipes. Some research has found that water hardness can negatively affect hair structure, hair strength, and skin structure. A 2018 study compared soap residue after washing hair with hard water and soft water. Researchers discovered that hard water leaves soap residue on the skin, which can dry out the skin while affecting skin protein and pH levels. Conversely, soft water (water with low dissolved mineral content) will help protect skin and remove soap more effectively. (1)

From a spiritual perspective, Jesus Christ is the One who provides the source of pure, living water that nourishes our spirits each day! The important question is: are we drinking from the Living Water that God provides? Do we read God's Word each day, meditate on it, and learn and follow His teachings? When Jesus came to Jacob's well to ask a Samaritan woman for a drink of water, during their conversation, He told her, "...Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life" (John 4:13-14). The Living Water that God provides is the source of water that grants "life to eternity," and those who drink it will never thirst again. Those who drink the Water that God provides will always be satisfied in His care; they have God's Word, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, and are protected from the "minerals, metals, and pollutants" of the surrounding environment.

When we drink the Water that God provides, our lives become like "soft water" being cleansed—a soft heart before God—receptive, ready to be transformed, willing to listen to and obey God's teachings. Our spirits joyfully receive the Word of Life. Conversely, if our lives do not drink from the Living Water, are not cleansed, then our spirits have "hard water"—full of sediment, minerals, pollution, filled with worldly matters—which makes our hearts hardened—our spirits no longer soft enough to receive God's Word. Let us remember how God reminds us, "Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: 'Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, Where your fathers tested Me, proved Me, And saw My works forty years. Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, "They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways." So I swore in My wrath, "They shall not enter My rest"' Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called 'Today,' lest any of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end" (Hebrews 3:12-15).

Thanks be to God who always provides everything we need each day. He gives us drinking water to sustain our bodies, and He also gives us the source of Living Water to nourish our spirits, helping us remain steadfast in God. Thanks be to God for His Word that gives us life, enables us to live joyfully in the grace that God provides, and is our comfort in times of trouble (Psalm 119:50). We pray that God will give us soft hearts, always desiring to learn God's Word each day; so that our spirits may grow, radiating the light of the Gospel to all those around us, helping them escape from "hard water" and repent to accept Jesus as the Redeemer of their lives! Amen!
