Curiosity - The Spirit of Inquiry

Curiosity and the spirit of inquiry are powerful tools that help us reduce anxiety, improve brain health, and find answers to our questions. As beloved children of God, we need to cultivate curiosity to understand God through meditating on Scripture and communion with Him regularly. When we live with a heart seeking God's will, we will discover the wonders of God's Word and develop deeper faith in Him.
# The Virtue of Curiosity
What kind of thinking can help you reduce anxiety and improve brain health? According to Dr. Wendy Suzuki, a neuroscience and psychology professor and dean of the College of Arts and Science at New York University, curiosity and the desire to learn can help us improve our brain health and reduce anxiety. A curious person is always seeking to understand what they do not yet know, with a spirit of learning what is good, to broaden their mind and expand their perspective in all things. When we understand and find answers, it helps us avoid anxiety. Curious people typically seek out knowledge they need to satisfy their questions. When they do, they find contentment, peace, and renewal.
Albert Einstein said, "The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when contemplating the mysteries of eternity, of life, and the marvelous structure of reality. It suffices to try to comprehend a little of this mystery each day. Never lose a holy curiosity." Curiosity, when used with positive intent, can help us solve nearly all problems—whether they are challenges at work, health concerns, personal finances, stress we face, or long working hours. Instead of worrying, let us understand the problem and pray, asking God to guide us in finding solutions. When we understand the situation and have a way forward, we will find peace. Therefore, curiosity can be a tool that God uses to help us avoid sin and live in peace under His care. It can help us distinguish right from wrong, see the world's traps, and avoid them. Curiosity can also help us understand more about who God is and what He is doing in the lives of each Christian, as the Psalmist once pleaded with God: "Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your law" (Psalm 119:18).
As beloved children of God, we need to have curiosity, always seeking to understand our God and His works through meditating on Scripture and communing with Him regularly. We need to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit to reveal His will to us, so that when we gain understanding, we do not become arrogant, but rather know that God is the One who grants us insight to solve our problems. Live each day with a heart that seeks God's will and teaches in His Word, and strive to learn more biblical knowledge, as Proverbs 4:5-7 teaches: "Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding."
May God grant us a heart of curiosity to seek, understand, and meditate upon His Word, that we may discover things we do not yet know about Him. Grant us courage to ask questions and examine the things we wonder about and plan to do. Give us perseverance in learning, so that our understanding of God may strengthen our faith in Him and help us serve Him! Amen!
Seek Him with all your heart and soul, Pray to God day and night without ceasing, He hears everywhere, Knows repentant hearts and words of plea, He forever shows compassion to all, And will fulfill our prayers, rejoicing our spirit, His blessings descend without end, His eternal power continues to help us all!
