This devotion emphasizes that money and worldly possessions cannot buy happiness, health, or eternal life. Only God's love is eternal and unchanging, and can save the human soul. When we accept Jesus Christ, we have everything we need for eternal life.

# Money Cannot Buy Everything

The ancients had a saying, "With money, you can even buy immortality," but in reality, "Money cannot buy everything; having wealth does not guarantee having all things!" The wealthy and the rich may have abundance, but they still lack happiness in their marriages. The rich may have excess money, yet they cannot buy health. Once afflicted with incurable disease, such as cancer, they must surrender to death! Even if one is a billionaire or millionaire, time will cause a person to grow old and their beauty to fade with the passing months and years. Money can only enhance beauty for a moment; it cannot grant eternal youth, nor can it guarantee longevity, and it certainly cannot purchase eternal life! The incompleteness, weakness, and brevity of human existence was prophesied by Moses in Psalm 90:10, "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away."

But only God's love endures forever, and nothing can separate His love from us! The Apostle Paul affirmed this, saying, "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39).

Furthermore, God is the Eternal One, as the Lord declared, "For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed" (Malachi 3:6). The Book of Hebrews also assures us, "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever" (Hebrews 13:8). God's Word is also the Eternal Word, as the prophet Isaiah wrote, "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever" (Isaiah 40:8).

Faith in an eternal God means there is nothing that can change. The God we trust is the God who exists forever, and He loves us unconditionally, infinitely, without measure—a love that is eternal! We will never regret accepting Jesus Christ as the Redeemer of our lives! What a blessing it is that when we "have God, we have everything!" Jesus posed a question to remind us about our souls: "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matthew 16:26); "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Mark 8:36-37). This question shows that the soul is the most precious thing, more valuable than all earthly possessions!

In a personal prayer of Saint Teresa of Avila, preserved in her book of prayers, she wrote, "Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you. All things are passing away; but God never changes. Patience achieves all things. Whoever has God lacks nothing: God alone suffices." Thanks be to God, a woman who devoted her entire life to caring for the sick and poor truly experienced the precious life in God. Indeed, having God means having everything!

Be steadfast in your faith in God and follow His teaching, "…Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind" (Matthew 22:37). A soul that reveres God has everything! When Jesus Christ returns, we will surely go to dwell in the Kingdom of Heaven with our beloved Lord. We pray that God will help and guide us to follow Him to the end! Amen!
