# Lesson 4 A Sincere Heart
"Keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life." - Jude 1:21
Several years ago, during a Sunday School class, a young person shared about their personal life. They said, "There was a time when I made a schedule to read the Bible daily for myself. Three times a day—morning, noon, and evening—but after only a few weeks, I stopped reading the Bible regularly... because life became busy, with so many things piling up, and gradually I forgot about reading the Bible every day!" Seeing their situation was similar to mine in the past, I encouraged them with a few pieces of advice: do not be discouraged, but pray and ask for God's strength to help you, to help you overcome life's difficulties, to help you develop a longing for His Word, to want to read and meditate on Scripture regularly, and then God will help you accomplish it! Each day you should read one or a few verses of Scripture, and then if you find you can continue, read a passage of Scripture, and gradually increase. Most importantly, ask God for His strength every day!
I remember many years ago when I was still studying for a graduate degree, I began to pray and ask God to give me a love for His Word and to grant me wisdom to understand, remember, and follow what He teaches! It is truly so—God has been with me and given me those things! I have come to recognize that God only desires a sincere heart that loves and fears Him! When we realize that we are weak, but our heart truly desires to seek Him, we should ask the Holy Spirit for strength and to guide us to walk with Him. Certainly this pleases God, and He will give us His new strength, so that we may be spiritually renewed and live closer to God! A heart that longs for God's Word will always have its desires fulfilled by God and will receive joy in His Kingdom! King David said in Psalm 37:4, "Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." May the Holy Spirit continually strengthen us to walk alongside God through reading and meditating on Scripture each day! Amen!
