Think of One Another

This devotional encourages us to care for and show concern to family, friends, and those around us through small gestures such as greetings, help, and sharing. When we express love for one another, we also demonstrate God's love for all humanity and prove ourselves to be disciples of Jesus Christ.
# Lesson 1 Think of One Another
"Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor." - Romans 12:10
Today, while watching a cooking show on Food Network, I noticed a clever and rather unusual advertisement. The commercial featured a family—a husband who is American, a wife who is Chinese, and their adorable six-month-old son with a round face who looks more Chinese. The couple shared how they roasted a 50-pound pig and served it to their family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy together. Everyone ate and praised how delicious it was. So the couple decided they would make roasting a pig and hosting this feast an annual tradition to entertain their family and friends. They said, "We want to make this an annual custom because it's an opportunity for family and friends to commune together."
Then the advertisement displayed the message: "Life is too short, stay passionate with friends and families." In general, the ad encourages people to cook good food, but adds this: "Life becomes more meaningful when you cook good food for your family and neighbors together."
Though it's an advertisement about cooking, it also speaks to hospitality between people—among family, friends, and loved ones. We often overlook the people around us, even those in our own families. Perhaps we don't need to roast a large pig to care for them, but a kind word of greeting, simple help, a bowl of rice, a piece of cake... these things all bring greater closeness than the forgetting of our bonds with them!
As Christians, let us strive to live with care for one another, showing concern for each other, so that our relationships become more intimate and human love grows greater each day. This is one of the commandments that Jesus Christ taught us: "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you" (John 15:12). When love among us is expressed, then God's love for all people is revealed even more abundantly! For Jesus said in John 13:35, "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." May God continually remind us and strengthen us to fulfill love in all our relationships! Amen!
*Brothers and sisters, one body, must love each other,* *Gentle and gracious, speaking no hurt,* *Treat one another kindly, as Christ our Savior,* *Love unto death, how beautiful!* *Honor and yield to one another, no jealousy,* *No discord, no pride spoken,* *But must be compassionate and respectful,* *Loving, forbearing, living together!*
