# A Hymn That Changed Hearts

## A Missionary's Journey to India - E.P. Scott

One day, Reverend E.P. Scott, a missionary, was standing on a city street when he noticed a man who looked somewhat different from the other townspeople. The missionary approached him and asked where he was from. The man replied that he came from a tribe in the mountains, and only came down to the city once a year to trade. From this encounter, Missionary Scott discovered that this tribe was a place where the Gospel had never been preached.

From that moment, Missionary E.P. Scott began to think about this tribe and sought a way to share the Gospel with them. After a time of prayer, he prepared his belongings and his violin, and set his course toward the Mountain Village. Before departing, Missionary Scott shared his intentions with his fellow missionaries, experienced men in the ministry. They told him, "We will never see you again. It would be foolish for you to go there." The reason was that they knew the tribe people in this village would "be a threat to your life," and they advised him not to go. However, with the prompting in his heart, he decided to set out as soon as possible. Missionary Scott truly wanted the people of this tribe to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He had prayed and knew this was an important mission God wanted him to accomplish.

Missionary Scott climbed into the mountains for two days on foot, and finally found himself among the peaks when suddenly the tribe members appeared, holding spears and pointing them at him. In a dangerous situation of "not knowing whether he would live or die," the missionary didn't know what to do. He took out his violin and began to sing the hymn "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name." The hymn contained these words:

*Let every kindred, every tribe on this terrestrial ball, to Him all majesty ascribe, and crown Him Lord of all. To Him all majesty ascribe, and crown Him Lord of all.*

As the missionary played and sang this hymn, he noticed that the spears pointed at him began to lower slowly, and he saw tears beginning to fall from the eyes of the tribe members. From that time on, the missionary remained living with this tribe for two and a half years, speaking about Jesus and His love, and sharing His Gospel of salvation with them. Later, Missionary Scott had to leave them due to his health. The tribe people walked him forty miles to a place where he could find transportation to return home for treatment.

Thank God Almighty, who used Missionary Scott through the praise of God. A hymn can change hearts. He transformed opposition, fear, and threats into gentleness, peace, and harmony. God used the loving heart of Missionary E.P. Scott and through the glorification of God by a hymn to help those who heard it open their hearts to seek Him. In various ways, God has wonderful plans for us. The important question is: Do we have the "loving heart" like Missionary E.P. Scott? Do we allow God to use us as instruments to preach the Gospel? Do we obey His will with all our heart, soul, and strength to do God's work?

It is the Holy Spirit who is always with us and guides us to do His work. Let us trust and rely on God in all things! Let us offer the gifts, talents, and everything God has given us to serve Him! We pray that the Holy Spirit will help us hear God's calling, fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ, and boldly proclaim the Gospel and His salvation to all people! May God guide us in our words, our deeds, and our use of the gifts God has given us so that all we do pleases God; so that those who hear may open their hearts, understand that Jesus Christ is the only one they need, and open their hearts to receive Jesus Christ as the Redeemer of their lives! We ask God to strengthen us! Amen!
